Who We Are

We are a group of parents who hated battling the grocery store rush, to dig around in an overpriced produce bin trying to find at least one acceptable piece of fruit or vegetable. Or when time didn’t allow for this needless searching, we bought a bag or plastic container of produce only to get home and find that ½ of it was rotten or bruised. We couldn’t understand why it was such a hassle to find good produce that didn’t break the bank. That’s when we decided to do a little research. We found that the local grocery stores bought their produce from large commercial companies that shipped the produce from far away places. By the time the grocery store received the produce, it had already been out of the ground or off the tree for a long time, decreasing its shelf life to only a few days. Since the grocery store only receives shipments on certain days, the produce we were encountering were far from garden fresh, hence our problem with finding good produce. With this knowledge under our belt, we pooled our resources and found growers who would sell directly to us. By buying direct from the farm we were able to get good fresh produce, extend the shelf life of what we get, save time from driving around searching for something good, and we get our pick of the best produce available, all for a cheap cheap price!!!!!

Since our group was so involved in our children’s activities and we all participate in our local community programs, we would bring fresh fruit and vegetable platters to the community events. After receiving so many compliments on the freshness and quality of our platters, we decided to form Green Bee Produce and offer our great deals to the rest of the community.

In order to provide everyone with great produce at a cheap price, we needed a way to distribute the new ‘Green Bee, Bee Box.’ We tried scenario after scenario with no luck. It wasn’t until our kids came to us in need of ideas and ways to raise money to fund their after school sports activities, that we had the brilliant idea of starting the Green Bee Program. With the Program we could use the School as a pickup point for the ‘Green Bee, Bee Box’, charge less for the produce because there was no added transportation costs for delivering, and help our kids get funding for their school activities by donating money to their schools for their help handing out the boxes. We soon realized that not only was the school interested but our church group was too. So we decided to expand our offering to all the local community programs, charitable organizations, and any other societies or groups which was in need of extra funding.

Our ultimate goal is to give back to the community that has been so good to us. We are able to share our ability to get garden fresh fruits and veggies at a very low cost, and we can help other organizations by giving them extra money to spend on making our community a happier and healthier place to live.
